Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack recently announced at the American Farm Bureau Meeting that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is reallocating facilities and resources due to the government’s budget constraints.
The cuts will decrease the workforce by more than 7,000 employees and will close 250 USDA offices across the country. Of those 259 offices, 131 are Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices. With this harrowing news, Vilsack expressed enthusiasm for the service USDA offers to farmers and ranchers and said this would not be sacrificed, partly due to capabilities that the USDA will be able to offer online.
