McPherson’s Taylor Robertson recently traveled to Orlando for the National iHoops Skill Challenge.
The contest was conducted by iHoops, which is the youth basketball initiative of the NCAA, NBA and WNBA.
Eighteen regional winners from around the country won an all-expense paid trip for themselves and one parent to Orlando to compete in a timed obstacle course competition, consisting of a series of passing, dribbling and shooting drills.
More than 750 local competitions were held nationwide and in Canada, reaching nearly 100,000 kids. Tia Karras, representing the Cleveland Cavaliers, placed first. Robertson, representing the Oklahoma City Thunder, placed second while Paige Whipple, representing the Portland Trailblazers, placed third.
Highlights of the trip for Robertson included tickets to Universal Studios, having Stuff the Orlando Magic Mascot play defense on her, meeting former Orlando Magic players Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw and visiting with Neil Dougherty, former KU assistant coach.
