McPherson College has announced the signing of McPherson High’s Evan Clary to a football and track and field letter of intent for the 2010-2011 school year.
“Evan is exactly the type of person that we want at our school and in our football program,” McPherson College head football coach Brian Ward said. “Obviously, being around McPherson College most of his life, he knows that he could have a great college experience here. He will be a great fit, and we believe that he will develop into one of the top defensive ends in our conference. This is a great day for our program.”
Clary, a defensive lineman on the football field, was a three-year letterwinner in football and track, while lettering one season in wrestling at McPherson High School.
On the football field, Clary recorded 46 tackles, including nine sacks and 16 tackles for a loss during his senior season.
Following his senior campaign, Clary was selected honorable mention All-State by The Wichita Eagle and The Topeka Capital-Journal, along with a first-team All-Conference selection by Division II of the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League.
“We are very excited to add Evan,” McPherson College head track and field coach Joe Eby said. “He is a tremendous athlete with a ton of potential to be a national caliber thrower for us. He has a great work ethic and will be a great addition to the team.”
On the track, Clary holds a personal record of 149-8 in the discus and 46-5 in the shot. He also has participated in the javelin while at MHS. In 2009, Clary qualified for the Kansas State High School track meet in the discus.
Clary plans to major in motorcycle restoration while at McPherson College.
