Central Christian College’s women and Tabor battled to a 0-0 tie here Wednesday in the season opener for the Lady Tigers.
Tabor had the wind advantage in the first half, but CCC played stout defense and received solid play in goal from Leah Stringer to keep the Bluejays off the board.
Energized with the wind at their backs in the second half, the Lady Tigers made some potential scoring rushes at the net, only to be turned away.
The teams played 20 minutes of overtime sessions, but the defenses were like fortresses.
Stringer had a big game in goal for the Lady Tigers, coming up with seven saves.
Whitney Chappell, a big scorer for CCC her first two years, has been moved to defense, where she did a solid job as a stopper. Freshmen Stephanie Street and Libby Anderson showed promise in the midfield, while Kim Rodriguez made a couple of plays to put herself in position to score.
“I was very pleased with our effort for all 120 minutes,” CCC coach Mike Reimer said. “We really worked hard the whole game. Leah came up big for us today. Hopefully when we get forward Kris Trammell back from injury, we’ll turn the corner offensively.”
CCC plays host to Sterling Tuesday.
