The McPherson County Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at the McPherson Municipal Center, 400 E. Kansas Ave.
Nolan Howell, retired newspaper, will give a program on “The Fleagle Gang.” This group of hold-up men robbed a McPherson bank in a daring daylight hold-up in 1922. McPherson had never had a bank robbery and the prosperous McPherson and Citizens Bank was a likely candidate. A bank employee was threatened but refused to open the safe to the three strangers.
The Fleagle Gang robbed banks and trains in Kansas, Colorado, Oregon and California. Over $1,000,000 was taken in the 10 years they operated, until they were apprehended or killed in a 1930 bank robbery in Colorado.
All interested persons are welcome to attend and hear this exciting story.
