  • A common mantra among ministries and other organizations is “we change lives.” I recently had the good fortune to attend an event sponsored by Mt. Hope Sanctuary whose mission is to stand by women and their children, if they have any, who find themselves in extremely difficult circumstances whatever the cause. The women and children are housed at Mt. Hope Sanctuary’s facility at 303 N. Walnut, but this is not your ordinary halfway house. The women are challenged through a variety of means to accept personal responsibility for their lives and to leave behind forever those personally destructive behaviors or circumstances that keep them from healthy, happy, productive lives. This program is truly transformational as proved by the witness of women who have benefited from it.
The purpose of the event I attended was to increase local support for Mt. Hope Sanctuary as several grants will soon be ending. If you know nothing about the organization, I encourage you to drop by or call 241-1993. You could also E-mail Briana Lance at briana@mthopesanctuary.org for more information. If you know about Mt. Hope but have yet to support it, I encourage you to get involved. I also want to put in a good word for McPherson College’s food service, who provided the food for the event which was held in Mingenback Theatre; it was first class all the way.

    Sincerely,
    John Holecek
    McPherson
