The McPherson High tennis team will be hosting its first of two invitationals at the newly renovated MHS courts on Friday. It was to have been Thursday, but was moved because of the weather.

The action should commence at 3 p.m.

Joining MHS in the field are Buhler, Derby, Great Bend, Hays, Newton, Salina South and Winfield. Winfield joins MHS as a probable Class 5A state championship contender.

MHS, under coach Doug Gayer, returns last year’s Class 5A state doubles champions, Nathan Wehrman and Mark Gayer, as well as another top-flight doubles team in Cory Horton and Tyler Singleton.

A complete preview of the team will be in The Sentinel’s Spring Preview edition Tuesday.
