WINFIELD -- Central Christian College’s men’s tennis team is now eligible for postseason play after knocking off Southwestern 6-3 on Tuesday.

“The guys knew what was at stake and they did what they had to do to win,” CCC coach Jeremy Nelson said.

Central, which moved its record to 4-3 on the year, has qualified for regional action April 29 in Oklahoma City.

Singles winners were Ivory Washington (6-2, 6-2), Jeff Szolis (6-2, 6-0), Troy Cook (6-2, 7-6), Jesse Crawford (6-3, 6-3) and Gunnar Kelly (7-6, 6-4). Kelly moved up from the second team to secure a key win, Nelson said.

Washington and Szolis (8-6) won a doubles match.

The Lady Tigers were defeated by the Builders, 9-0. The best match of the day came at No. 1 doubles, where Brittany Longoria and Kristen Reith were edged 9-7.

Central is scheduled to host Sterling on Thursday, weather permitting.
