Smoky Valley’s Quinn Dippel, coming off a third-place state finish, showed the form Tuesday that could make him the 4A favorite.

Dippel roared through a strong draw in the Hesston Invitational to capture the No. 1 singles division.

Dippel defeated highly regarded Corban Aspergren of Wichita Independent 8-2 in the title match. He lost only two games in the first two rounds.

The Vikings scored 35 points to finish fourth, trailing Goddard (42), Hesston (40) and Wichita Independent (36). There were eight teams in all.

Also starring for the Vikings was the No. 1 doubles team of Seth Nelson and Jarrod Altenborg, as they also captured a championship. They were an 8-7 winner in the title match. They were third in the state last year.

The No. 2 doubles team of Paul Masterson and Matt Graham took fourth, while Ryan Yenni was seventh at No. 2 singles.
