McPherson High’s track and field team took just a handful of competitors to Salina South Tuesday.
The MHS boys were fifth out of eight teams with 60 points, with Salina Central winning it with 124, while Garden City was second with 96.
Adam Porter doubled on the day, winning the 800 and 1,600, while Evan Clary won the discus and was second in the shot. Davian Lawrence captured the gold in the pole vault.
Just three girls went, with Andrea Nowak taking second in the 3,200, while Courtney Pavlik was second in the 100 hurdles. MHS managed to score 22 points and took seventh, with Wichita Heights taking first.
“There were many personal bests in the meet tonight,” MHS co-head coach Cheryl Malm said. “Overall, the kids competed very hard and scored well considering the small numbers we took.”
MHS goes to Augusta Friday.
