McPherson High’s softball winning streak was ended at seven games Tuesday by Valley Center.
The Hornets captured 6-2 and 6-5 victories, the second game going nine innings.
MHS fell to 9-4, as it had entered the night with a seven-game unbeaten streak.
Individual statistics were not available. Morgan Swisher pitched both games for the Bullpups.
“It was a grind the entire night, due in large part to Valley Center’s  solid defense,” MHS coach Cody Stucky said. “In the first game, almost every ball we hit they made a play on.”
MHS led the second game 5-3 going into the final inning, but the Hornets took advantage of an error to tie the game, then won it.
“We had too many errors and some crucial baserunning mistakes that are usually very uncharacteristic of us that really hurt our chances,” Stucky said. “We didn’t do the little things.”
The MHS JVs split, losing the first game 10-1 and winning the second, 10-3. Abby Steiner was the winner. Offensive leaders were not available.
MHS goes to Newton Friday.
