  • Mr. D. N. Newt Bressie, Jr., 85, of McPherson, passed away at 10:52 a.m., Sunday, August 15th, 2010 while in the company of family members at Cedars Health Care Center, McPherson, Kansas.
    Mr. Bressie was born in Liberty, Kansas on August 23, 1924, the son of Dawson Newton and Mabel Alberta (Slater) Bressie.
    Newt attended the Independence grade schools and graduated from Independence High School, Independence, Kansas in 1942.  He honorably  served his Country during W.W.II in the United States Navy.  He then atended and graduated from Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas in 1951.
    He was a member of First Christian Church McPherson, KS.  
    He served in the U.S. Navy as a RM 2C in WW II. Point System, Victory Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Medal & Citation; American Area Campaign Medal; Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal with 2 Stars; Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Star.
    He was a Crude Pipeline SuperintendentNewt started working in 1959 for Clear Creek, Inc of Wichita, Kansas and was the Manager of Field Operations.  He later transfered to the National Cooperative Refinery Association in McPherson in 1974 where he became the Crude Pipeline Superintendent until his retirement on August 31, 1989. 
    Newt was a member of the American Legion Post 24, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715, McPherson Masonic Lodge, Lions Club all of McPherson, Kansas and was a member of the WSU Alumni Association of Wichita, Kansas.
    Dawson Newton "Newt" Bressie was united in marriage to Patsy R. "Pat" Strickland on August 26, 1949 at Eldorado, Kansas.  They established their first home together in Wichita.  Newt moved to McPherson in 1974  
    Surviving family members include his loving and devoted wife of over sixty years, Patsy R Bressie, of McPherson, KS his daughter  Susan K. Brown and her husband Roger of Cheney, Kansas; his son  Richard N. "Rick" Bressie and his wife Sheri of Galva, Kansas; five grandchildren  Rebecca Burdick and her husband Paul of Cheney, Kansas, Melissa Spieckermann and her husband Phil of Wichita, Kansas, Eric Brown and his wife Brooke of Manhattan, Kansas, Kaitlyn Bressie and Alyson Bressie both of Galva, Kansas; five Great Grandchildren with one more on the way!, Natalie Burdick, Joshua Burdick, Hallie Spieckermann, Anna Spieckerman, and  Lyndie Burdick;  
    Newt was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Donald, Oscar, Wilbur, and Albert Bressie; two sisters, Eunice Bressie and Ruth Burgell.
    Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home, McPherson, Kansas.
    Funeral Service will be held at First Christian Church, McPherson, KS, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 18th,  with Dr. John Gran,Sr. officiating.
    Final resting place will be in the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas with military honors presented by members of the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 both of  McPherson.
