Name:
Beverly Hawkins

Years as a volunteer:
All my life I have volunteered in one way or another. I just jumped on this year as a Girl Scout Leader.

Name or organization you volunteer with and include any titles, if applicable:
Girl Scouts. I am a Co-Leader of a Daisy Troup with Amy Talley

Tell us, in three sentences, how you got started as a volunteer:
I love to work with kids. I want to be able to give them the knowledge and experiences I had while I was a Girl Scout. I started volunteering when my kids were old enough to begin Girl Scouts.

What do you enjoy most about being a volunteer:
The kids’ smiles when they are having fun.

What have you learned as a volunteer?:
To not stress out, and to go with the flow. Not every meeting will go as planned. You have to learn that it is OK and have a plan B.

What advice do you have for others that want to volunteer?:
Just do it! If you do not want to be in a solo leadership position, help out the leaders, or be a co-leader. Just jump right in, you will enjoy it, and so will your kid(s).
