Central Christian College will be serving as host for the National Christian College Athletic Association Regional Soccer Tournament, which gets under way Thursday at Tiger Field and in Lindsborg at Anderson Stadium.
The winner of each division advances to the national tournament, to be played in Florida.
The Central Christian men of first-year coach Cole Ouren are just one of many strong teams in the field. The Tigers had one of their best seasons in many a year, going 12-5-1.
The Tigers open tourney play at 7 p.m. Thursday on their home field against 12-6 Central Baptist. If they win, they would play No. 1 seed Southwestern Christian University, which at 17-1 is considered a strong favorite. That game would be played at 7 p.m. Friday.
Another team to watch on the men’s side is Oklahoma Wesleyan, which is 11-4-3.
The women’s title appears to be Mid-America Christian University’s to lose. It enters tourney play at 15-2-1, one of only two teams with a winning record.
Central Christian, under the guidance of veteran coach Mike Reimer, is 7-8-3, but has played a lot of quality teams tough. CCC opens tourney play at 4 p.m. Thursday against Colorado Christian, which is 2-13-3. A Central Christian win and it would play at 4 p.m. Friday against Mid-America Christian.
