Bethany College’s men put up a terrific battle against Emporia State Monday night in an exhibition basketball game before losing, 81-71.
The Swedes were down only seven at the break, 35-28, and hung with the Hornets throughout the night.
Vincent Ferguson scored 19 points to lead the Swedes, while Clayton Goggins added 16 and Haydon Parks came off the bench for 13.
Adam Holthaus led ESU with 21 points, while Xavier Burnette tallied 18, Matt Boswell furnished 16 and Michael Tyler contributed 14.
Saturday’s Game
At the McPherson College Classic, the Swedes -- for the second night in a row -- let a halftime lead get away in a 73-70 loss to Peru State.
Bethany was up 43-38 at the half, but went cold in the second half, as MCAC member Peru charged back for the win.
Ferguson scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds for Bethany, while Quenton Jennings scored 15 and Trey Beachum added 11.
Bethany takes a 2-6 record to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Saturday for an exhibition game before opening KCAC play Dec. 2 at Friends.
