Mrs. Elvera Marie Briggs, 97, of Hutchinson, KS., passed away at 12:15 a.m., Monday, December 20th, 2010 peacefully at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kansas. Mrs. Briggs was born on her parents farm, rural Windom, Kansas on April 5, 1913, the daughter of Herman and Mary Helen (Johnson) Ekholm. Elvera attended the Andover grade school, attended McPherson High School, Sterling High School and graduated from Windom High School, Windom, Kansas. She was a member of Andover Lutheran Church Windom, Kansas. Elvera taught Sunday school, Bible school, served on many church committees, and served her church in many capacities through the years. Elvera was a homemaker and farm wife. She was an avid quilter, enjoyed cooking, and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elvera M. Ekholm was united in marriage to Harlow Arthur Briggs on May 25, 1941 at the Andover Lutheran Church, Windom, Kansas. Harlow died on November 30, 1994. Surviving family members include her children, Jalane White and her husband Kendall of Inman, Kansas and Bryan D. Briggs and his wife Joni of Windom, Kansas; her 8 grandchildren, Travis Briggs and his fiance' Brianna Jamison of Austin, Texas, Tara Briggs of Wichita, Kansas, Trina Briggs of Wichita, Kansas, Kandell (White) Amershek and her husband Alan of Girard, Kansas, Dr. Andrew White and his wife Stephanie of Temple, Texas, Justin White and his fiance' Lotia Conley of Hutchinson, Kansas, Preston White and his wife Shannon of Overland Park, Kansas, and Stacy White of Inman, Kansas; 12 great-grandchildren; Peyton Amershek, Trevor Amershek, August Amershek, Markus White, Nathan White, Dorian White, Hailey White, Justin White II, Alyssa White, Kylee White, Aden Conley and Landon White; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Elvera was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Mary (Johnson) Ekholm; 2 brothers, Leland and Elmer Ekholm; her husband Harlow Arthur Briggs; 2 great-grandchildren, Katrina White and Andrew White II Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 5 to 7p.m. with family present at Andover Lutheran Church, rural Windom, Kansas. Funeral Service will be held at the Andover Lutheran Church, rural Windom, KS, at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 23rd, with Reverend Thomas Hallowell officiating. Final resting place will be in the Andover Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Windom, Kansas.
