The McPherson High  girls basketball team hosted the 45-team McPherson Winter MAYB Tournament Saturday.
The event, in its sixth year, was for boys and girls in grades 4-7, and played out at McPherson High School, McPherson College and McPherson Middle School.
All profits go to the MHS girls basketball program to help offset registration fees for youth, and the Bullpup program also receives funds to be put toward summer basketball fees.
“We had about 15 more teams than usual this year, so I think that shows that the teams really like the way we run things,” MHS coach Chris Strathman said. “Our youth parents and volunteers do an awesome job of helping out, from scheduling the games, concessions, taking gate receipts, and gym supervision, the list could go on and on. We couldn’t do it without their help. There is no better way for a basketball program to fundraise than by hosting a tournament like this. It brings a lot of people to town for a day as well, so it definitely helps out our local businesses and restaurants.”
