Anita Irene Elam, 53, of Lehigh, Kan., and formerly of Cedar Point, Kan., died at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at her home in Henrietta, Mo.
Anita was born June 20, 1957, in Cameron, Mo., to Bobbie Dowell and Shirley Jean (Jones) Elam.
Survivors include her mother, Shirley J. Elam of Lawson, Mo; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bobbie Dean and Rita Elam of Overland Park, Kan., and James Michael Heath and fiancé, Jessika Ramirez of Lakewood, Colo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Scott Flaming of Hesston, Kan.; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Larry and Christine Elam of Warsaw, Mo., and Tommy Elam of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Garry Weekley of Fort Worth, Texas; two step-sons and their wives, Kent and Lynn Mai of Goessel, Kan., and Matthew Mai of Great Bend, Kan; two step-daughters and their husbands, Kristi and Matt Mason of Gladstone, Mo., and Audrey and Troy Siebert of Levant, Kan.; three grandchildren and five step-grandchildren also survive.
Anita worked for the United States Postal Service for over 20 years. She had worked in post offices in Cedar Point, Florence, Lehigh and Canton, Kan. She worked in Harrisonville and Liberty, Mo., post offices before moving to the Richmond Post Office as a Sales-Service-Distribution Associate in 2007. She was a Baptist. She had lived in Cedar Point and Lehigh, Kan., areas before moving to Richmond 3 years ago.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made either to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at 4 p.m., at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be Thursday, December 23, 2010 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Inurnment will be in the Elmira Cemetery northeast of Lawson, Mo., at a later date. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.
