William Earl VanTassel, 87, passed away Dec. 11, 2010, in West Plains, Mo.
Earl was born May 18, 1923, on a farm near Vilas, Colo., to John Alonzo VanTassel and Emma Avelda Thompson VanTassel.
He entered the United States Marine Corps March 24, 1944, and his company in the Third Marine Division assisted in the capturing of Iwo Jima for the United States.
He spent most of his life as a dairy farmer, having a farm in Bethune, Colo., and Mountain Grove, Mo.
Besides his parents, Earl was preceded in death by three brothers, four sisters and one great-grandson.
He is survived by his wife of the home, Rosa; one son: Ernest VanTassel and his wife Kim of Cabool, Mo.; three daughters: Rita Hendon and husband, Ronnie of Hawley, Texas; Karen Loganbill and husband Larry of Moundridge; Lora Paz and husband James of Yoder, Wyoming; three step-sons; three step-daughters; one sister: Alta England of Buda, Texas; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Dec. 15, in Mountain Grove, Mo., and burial services were held Dec. 17, at Stonington Cemetery near Stonington, Colo.  Military honors were provided at both places.
