New Year’s Eve is typically a time for revelry, which can be a problem when the parties end and everyone has to find a way home. However, the parishioners of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church want to help, and will operate a new year’s ride home service for anyone too intoxicated to drive.
“If people need a ride home from celebrating, we’ll give them a ride home free of charge,” said St. Anne Pastor Fr. Laird MacGregor.
MacGregor said last year, their service carried 25 people home safely, and that the program grew out of discussions church members had on establishing practical ministries.
“We were brainstorming about ways to show God’s love in a practical way,” MacGregor said. “We came up with this idea and it didn’t take more than some volunteers driving and manning the phone. We had such a good time with it last year, and they’re all looking forward to it again.”
The taxi service will operate from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on New Year’s Eve, and will take people home within the county.
“We aren’t going to be toting anyone to Wichita,” joked MacGregor.
If you need a ride on New Year’s Eve call the taxi service at 241-0298.
