Hang on, folks. It’s going to be a wild 72-hour ride.
McPherson College’s men’s basketball team begins the final week of KCAC play tonight hosting Saint Mary in a matchup of upper-division teams.
Game time for Senior Night at the Sport Center is 8 p.m., with a women’s game starting at 6.
The Bulldogs enter the night alone in third place in the KCAC at 10-6, while Saint Mary is a game back, tied with Bethany for fourth at 9-7.
A victory clinches a first-round home playoff game for the Bulldogs, who enter the night having won eight in a row, improving their overall record to 16-11, that after they had lost nine of 11.
The top four teams serve as first-round hosts.
The Bulldogs then close out the regular season Saturday at first-place Sterling, which can clinch a tie for the title tonight with victory at Bethel, which has lost nine in a row.
Mac coach Tim Swartzendruber said he wants his team to have tunnel vision, with only Saint Mary on its mind.
“We have to be concerned about ourselves and keeping our focus,” Swartzendruber said. “We can only control what we do. Obviously with some help, we could finish anywhere from first to third.  But our main objective is to be ready for University of Saint Mary.”
The Bulldogs have gone 7-0 since the start of second-half play. Their first meeting with Saint Mary was one of their poorer games, losing 83-66.
Second-place Tabor, which is 11-5 and a game up on the Bulldogs, doesn’t have an easy finish, as it has road games tonight at Friends and Saturday at Bethany, which is at home tonight as well against Southwestern.
MAC WOMEN NEED A WIN -- The women’s game matches the two bottom teams of the KCAC, as Mac is 3-13 and Saint Mary is 2-14, both at this point on outside of the playoffs.
The Bulldogs can only make the field of eight with wins tonight and Saturday, while Bethany has to lose both of its games. The Swedes are a game up on the Bulldogs, but they own the tiebreaker by sweeping the season series.
Mac defeatedSaint Mary 59-48 in the first meeting. The Bulldogs are 5-21 overall.
