Independence Community College may soon become McPherson South.
MHS seniors Heath Collins and Tommy Crayton signed football letters of intent this week with the Pirates, joining Justin Armstrong, who had signed with ICC earlier.
Collins, 5-11 and 185 pounds, was a first-team AVCTL Division II selection at linebacker and also filled in at running back.
In his cameo appearances, he rushed for 135 yards on just 26 carries and scored two touchdowns. He also put up gaudy numbers as a back-up his junior year, but concentrated this season more on defense.
Collins, who earned All-State honorable mention, said he’d like to get a crack at running back, but will play any position the coaching staff asks.
“They have a good coaching staff,” said Collins, noting it was a big reason for his picking ICC.
Crayton, 5-11 and 256 pounds, earned first-team AVCTL Division II honors for his play in the offensive line. He also was honorable mention All-State, and opened a lot of holes for an offense that regularly up 50 points a game.
Crayton also said he was impressed with the coaching staff and said with three Bullpups in fold, it will be good to have players on the team he’s familiar with.
