McPherson’s City Commission approved several grant applications recommended by the city’s Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) during Monday’s meeting.
Event grants were issued to New Hope Legacy Five Concert for $1,250, Women and Children Combating Cancer (WACCC) Cooking for the Cure for $250, McPherson Opera House hosting the Wichita Grand Opera for $3,000, McPherson Night of Magic for $200, WordFest for $900, Mac Trax Railroad Train Show for $190 and MACCC Alumni Concert for $150.
Additionally, sports tournament grants were also issued to the McPherson Softball Club for $500 and the United Way of McPherson County triathlon for $112.50.
CVB Director Anne Hassler informed the commission that the CVB advisory board voted to expend up to $5,660 for items relating to the Biking Across Kansas Event (BAK) on June 7. The race will stop in McPherson, and the city plans on making the trolley available, as well as the Lakeside Park Bandshell and waterpark.
In other business:
• Fire Chief Jeff Deal received approval to start the process of hiring another full-time firefighter.
• City Code Enforcement Officer Vince Rocco informed commissioners of three inoperable vehicles, and requested they be declared public nuisances.
• Commissioners approved a request by the Mac CARS Club to close a portion of Main Street on May 7 for its annual car show.
