If McPherson High’s boys are to arrive at their ultimate destination -- March 12 at the Topeka Expocentre -- they’ll need for juniors Travell Robinson and Jordan Hart to play the way they did Monday.
Robinson scored 13 points and threw down a rim-rattling dunk, while Hart made several nice passes while directing traffic, as the Bullpups pulled away from the Derby Panthers, 76-50.
MHS, 17-1, turns right around and hosts Valley Center tonight in the final regular-season home game at 7:45.
“That was Travell’s best game,” MHS coach Kurt Kinnamon said. “Jordan had some nice assists.”
Of course, MHS received its usual output from Christian Ulsaker and Jack Pyle, who scored 24 and 22 points respectively.
Pyle hit a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer to increase MHS’ lead to 36-29 and it was only a harbinger of things to come, as the Bullpups put on their running shoes in the second half to the tune of 40 points to leave the Panthers in the dust.
“I thought we had a lot of nice assists in the second half,” Kinnamon said. “It was kind of nice to get out and run again. We got some easy baskets in transition.”
Derby’s Cameron Cornelius and Kyle Steadman scored 18 and 17 points respectively, but Jabril Richardson was held to four.
The MHS JVs were edged, 53-51. Keaton Sorenson and Cody Cape scored 11 points apiece and Alex Bahr added 10.
