McPherson College’s women didn’t go down without a fight.
The Bulldogs, needing to upset No. 13 Sterling Saturday on the Lady Warriors’ home court just for a chance to qualify for the playoffs, played the KCAC co-champs to a standstill for a half before succumbing, 57-44.
Mac finished the year 4-14 in the KCAC and tied for eighth with Bethany, but the Swedes swept the season series to advance to the playoffs.
Mac was 6-22 in Cy Rolfs’ first year as head coach.
The Bulldogs held Sterling to just 29  percent in the first half to trail only 23-21, but the Lady Warriors gradually pulled away, though their 13-point margin at the end was their biggest of the game.
Elice Frey had a double-double for the Bulldogs with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Britany Gasper led Sterling with 22.
Kristen Ozbun scored nine points in her final Bulldog game and finished her career ranked No. 3 all-time with 1,255 points, trailing only Carol Zink and Erica Alvarez. Ozbun was Mac’s only senior.
