Clayton Goggins came up big in overtime for the Bethany College Swedes Wednesday night.
Goggins drained back-to-back 3-pointers and hit a couple of free throws in the OT, as the Swedes held off Saint Mary 69-66 to advance to the semifinals of the KCAC Postseason Tournament.
The Swedes, now 14-15, will make the short trip to McPherson for a 2 p.m. Saturday clash with the Bulldogs at the Sport Center.
The Swedes, who already owned two wins over the Spires, led 32-21 at halftime and appeared to have control of the game until Chris Combs started to heat up for the Spires. Saint Mary went on a 19-8 push to open the second half, led by Combs’ three 3-pointers, to take a 41-40 lead and from there it was a white-knuckler.
Bethany led late until Jeb Greenberg scored for Saint Mary with 4.3 seconds left to force overtime, which proved to be Goggins Time.
Goggins finished with 15 points to lead the Swedes, while Haydon Parks scored 14, and Trey Beachum and Chris Dean tallied 11 apiece.
Greenberg led the Spires with 19 points, while Combs scored 14.
Brandon Coleman, the KCAC’s leading scorer, was held to four points by the tough Swede defense.
Bethany and McPherson College have split their two meetings, both winning at home.
