Barring a drastic change in fortunes, McPherson High’s basketball teams should enjoy a no-sweat Friday in their regular-season finale.
MHS travels to Arkansas City for the 20th and final regular-season games of the 2010-11 season.
The girls tip off at 6 p.m., with the boys to follow.
The MHS girls will attempt to complete a 10-0 run through Division II of the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League. The Bullpups are 17-2 overall.
But unless Derby shocks Salina South Friday in Derby, the Bullpups will be the No. 2 seed in next week’s sub-state.
Salina South, MHS and Newton all have two losses. Salina South and Newton have split their two meetings, MHS owns a victory over Newton, while South handed MHS one of its two defeats in the season opener.
Pairings will be released Saturday.
The Bullpups should have no trouble with Arkansas City, since they were a 41-point winner in the first meeting and MHS coach Chris Strathman said the Bulldogs had an injury to a key player since that meeting.
MHS is coming off a 64-28 waltz against Valley Center, knocking down 10 of 21 3-pointers in the process.
The MHS boys will be seeking their 50th straight Division II victory and chances are better than good since they were a 75-33 winner in the first meeting.
MHS has the No. 1 sub-state seed locked up and will play either Topeka West or Newton in Thursday’s first round. Salina Central will be the No. 2 seed and away from the Bullpups’ side of the bracket.
The Bullpups defeated Valley Center 59-34 on Tuesday, as Christian Ulsaker scored 19 points and Jack Pyle added 15.
