The National Weather Service out of Wichita has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for McPherson and surrounding counties until 9 p.m. tonight (Sunday).

The main area of concern will be across Southern Kansas this afternoon into this evening, as a warm frontal boundary surges north into Southern Kansas with a moisture rich environment along the Kansas/Oklahoma border.   A few supercell thunderstorms are possible in the greatest threat area with large hail up to golf ball size and damaging wind gusts to 60-70 mph.  A strong tornado cannot be ruled out. 

Convection will be possible from this afternoon through early this evening, with storms developing sometime after 2 p.m. but more likely after 4 p.m.  The threat will last the longest over Southeast Kansas where the severe threst could last until around 10 p.m.
