Smoky Valley’s boys opened Class 4A sub-state play Monday night with an 82-6 rout of St. John’s Military.
The Vikings overwhelmed the Muleskinners, allowing just one basket in each of the first three quarters and pitching a shutout in the fourth.
The Vikes divvied up the scoring, with 10 players getting into the book. Quinn Dippel led the way with 13 points, while Nick Deterding, Raymond Dauer and Koltin Howard-Talbott all scored 10. Defensively, the Vikes came up with 27 steals and 50 rebounds. The Vikes play Pratt Thursday in Colby.
Moundridge boys 64, Canton-Galva 32 -- The Wildcats blazed to a 33-9 halftime lead and advanced on to Thursday’s semifinals at Inman to play Herington. Trey Unrau hit three 3-pointers early and had seven in the game, finishing with 28 points. Tad Wedel scored 12 points for C-G and Nick Vogts added 10, as the Eagles finished their season.
Inman boys 66, Ellinwood 61 -- In a surprisingly close game, Inman overcame a 43-42 deficit after three quarters by scoring 24 points, with Devan Wenthe and Jason Friesen putting the game away late at the foul line. Friesen scored 14 of his career-high 25 points in the fourth quarter, while Luke Ropp and Taylor Hicks scored 10 apiece. The Teutons host once-beaten Berean on Thursday.
