David Eugene "Gene" Pliler, 81, of Galva, passed away at 10:46 a.m., Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, while in the company of family members at Via Christi St. Francis , Wichita, Sedgwick County.
Mr. Pliler was born in West Plains, Mo., on June 9, 1929, the son of the late David and Rose Etta (Pliler) Pliler.
Gene attended West Plains Schools, in West Plains, Mo.
Gene attended Harmony Christian Church McPherson.
Gene Honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Gene was a partner with Casebeer, Anderson in C.A.P. which stood for Casebeer, Anderson, Pliler Oil Fields and Operations. Gene also played in the Smokey Valley Playboys, a country western band.
Gene was a member of American Legion Post 24, McPherson.
David Eugene "Gene" Pliler was united in marriage to Dorothy Amy Davis on Jan. 30, 1953, at Salem, Ark. She died on Jan. 7, 2005.
Surviving family members include: his four daughters Mary L. Fattig, Lisa L. Johnson and her husband, David, Veeda R. Clark, and Rhonda J. Boydston and her husband, Eugene, all of McPherson; his sister, Mary Catherine Barnett, of West Plains, Mo.; his five grandchildren, Justin E. Clark and his wife, Michelle Clark, Jennifer D. Clark, Lacey D. Johnson, Amy-Jean N. Boydston, and Sunnie R. Boydston all of McPherson; his great-granddaughter, Michaella R. Clark of McPherson; his uncle, Junior Pliler and his wife LaVone of Joplin, Mo.; other relatives and a host of friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Dorothy.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday, March 3, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson.
Funeral service will be held at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 4, with Pastor Robert Park officiating.
Final resting place will be in the McPherson Cemetery with military hornors presented by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 and American Legion Post 24, both of McPherson.
