McPherson County Commissioners voted Tuesday to spend $12,759 to restore the roof of Lindsborg’s historic railroad depot.
The depot, which was moved to the grounds surrounding the Old Mill, is the oldest railroad depot in McPherson County, having been built in 1879. Old Mill Museum Director Lorna Nelson is currently exploring having it designated as a state and/or national historic site.
The roof will be restored to its original appearance by using cedar shingles.
Commissioners also heard from County Public Works Director Tom Kramer regarding some sinkholes forming on 14th Ave. near Chisum. Kramer said the sinkholes result from an old pipe near the road that has started to rust through. The county is exploring options to deal with this.
