Powerhouse Goddard slowed down McPherson High’s surging baseball team Thursday, sweeping a doubleheader.
The Lions were a 12-1 winner in the opener as they scored seven runs in the fourth to take command. Jared Reese drove in Aaron Elsasser with the Bullpups’ only run. Colby Geren had two hits, as MHS was held in check.
Kelly Blomberg took the loss.
The Lions won the nightcap 10-3, though it was just 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth when the Lions scored six runs.
Seth Sterling had two hits for MHS. Blomberg had a triple. Jeremy Moore took the loss.
“Goddard is the best team we have played this year,” said MHS coach Craig Marshall, whose team is now 5-7. “We had opportunities, but we couldn’t get the key hit, make the defensive play or execute the key pitch to keep the games close.”
The MHS JVs lost, 17-2 and 16-1. Tanner Hamilton had two hits in the opener, while Chris Rakowski had two hits in the nightcap.
