Edith B. Hayes, 97, of Little River, died April 22, 2011, at Sandstone Heights Nursing  Home in Little River.
She was born July 6, 1913, in Morrill to Lewis and Winifred Racus Bechtelheimer.
She graduated from Sabetha High School and attended McPherson  College. She had lived in the Geneseo and Little River area since 1934.
She was a homemaker and member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, senior center, L.R. Study Club, all of Little River, Rice County Historical Society and Webster Birthday Club.
On Feb. 2, 1934, she married William Kermit Hayes in McPherson. He died Jan. 6, 1988.
Survivors include: three sons, Delbert and Joyce Hayes, LeRoy and JoNelle Hayes, both of Geneseo, Byron and Anne Hayes, Lyons; daughter Patricia and Tom Mais, Emporia; sister-in-law Lois Hayes, McPherson; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, at the United Methodist Church in Little River.
Pastor Theresa Forshee will officiate the service.
Burial will take place at 9 a.m. April 26, at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, April 25, with the family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church of Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, in care of the funeral home.
