Mr. Melvin Lester Ford, 75, of McPherson, entered eternal rest at 2:05 a.m., Sunday, April 24, 2011, while in the company of family members at Memorial Hospital McPherson.
Mr. Ford was born in Stratford, Iowa, on Aug. 18, 1935, the son of Everett C. and Ilda Leona (Carpenter) Ford.
Melvin attended Iowa grade schools and McPherson High School.
He attended Church of the Nazarene and Free Methodist Church both of McPherson.
Melvin was a truck driver. Through the years he worked for Roy J. Taylor, Groendyke Transport Co., Kansas Transport, Farmland, Thompson Transport, Certainteed Corporation, Pan Handle, and S.M.X. all of McPherson and General Battery of Salina.
Melvin L. Ford was united in marriage to Anganetha "Nita" Huebert on Jan. 2, 1955, at the Church of the Nazarene, McPherson.
Surviving family members include his loving and devoted wife of over 56 years, Anganetha "Nita" Ford, of the home, McPherson; his daughters, Rose Davis and her husband, Jerry, of Chelsea, Ala., Beverly Pangrac and her husband "Butch" of Mission, Darlene Roberts and her husband, Scott, of Augusta and Diana Blandin of Hutchinson; his sister, Esther Urquiola and her husband, Philip, of McPherson, brother, Warren W. Ford and his wife, Brenda, of Independence, Mo.; his sister-in-law, Gladys Ford of McPherson; Melvin is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Dennis, Otis, David, and Charles Ford; and great-grandson Jonathan Sanchez.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson.
Graveside Service will be conducted at McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, with Pastor Philip Urquiola officiating.
