Smoky Valley High School senior Seth Nelson has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Bethany College for the 2011-2012 academic year.
Nelson was a forward for the Vikings, where he played basketball for three years. He earned All-League honors and All-State honorable mention in 2010 and 2011. His senior year statistics include averaging 12.6 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game. He had 53 blocks, 25 steals and 36 assists. Nelson had a 51 percent field goal percentage.
In addition to basketball, Nelson also played football and tennis. He earned All-League honors in football in 2010. He was also a part of the 2009 and 2010 state champion tennis teams, winning the doubles title last year. Nelson was the recipient of the Steve Malm Scholarship at Smoky Valley High School.
Bethany men’s basketball coach Clair Oleen said, “We are very happy to have Seth Nelson choose to continue his education at Bethany College and become a part of Bethany basketball. Seth is a super young man and exceptional person. It has been fun to watch Seth grow and develop as a basketball player at Smoky Valley High School. I am honored to have the opportunity to be Seth’s college basketball coach, and I look forward to his continued growth and development. We welcome Seth and his parents, Bill and Kristin, along with his sisters, Emily and Elise, to the Bethany basketball family.”
Nelson has a 3.6 grade point average and is undecided on his major at this time.
