Bernice J. Johnson, 100, of McPherson, passed away at 7:22 a.m., Friday, May 20, 2011, peacefully at Harmony Home, McPherson.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Lafontaine on April 23, 1911, the daughter of E. Oscar and Myrtle (Bobbitt) McKinney.
Bernice attended and graduated from Lafontaine High School in 1929. She then attended and received her teacher's certificate from Pittsburg State Teachers College.
Bernice was a member of First Christian Church McPherson where she was an Elder Emeritus and she served her church through the years in other capaicties.
Bernice was a homemaker and taught school in Wilson County and later in McPherson County for 13 years.
She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
Bernice J. McKinney was united in marriage to T. Lynn Johnson on Aug. 5, 1934, at Lafontine. He died on April 4, 1990.
Surviving family members include: her children, Mona Poteet of Ridgecrest, Calif., Mardel Timmons and her husband Garry, of Lincoln, Neb., Garold Johnson and his wife Alice Fae, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Velda Boltz and her husband Dale, of Grand Island, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, T. Lynn Johnson; son, Dale Rex Johnson and her brothers, Ray and Reid McKinney.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, May 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home, McPherson.
Memorial service will be held at First Christian Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating.
Graveside services will preced the memorial service on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson.
