The Kansas Historical Society announced Tuesday that it was awarding a Historic Preservation Fund Grant to the Lindsborg Chamber of Commerce for $6,890. The grant will be used for a downtown survey.
Each year the National Park Service provides the Kansas State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) with funds that finance in part its operations and salaries. A portion of these funds is passed through the SHPO to Certified Local Governments (CLG) and other organizations to pay for historic preservation activities at the local level.
These pass-through grants help finance activities that will contribute to planning for the preservation of our cultural resources including the built environment and archeological resources. Up to 60 percent of the cost of eligible activities may be funded through this program. Activities include the identification and evaluation of properties that may be eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places or the Register of Historic Kansas Places through surveys.
These grants also were awarded to Hutchinson, Kansas City, Lawrence, Topeka, Wichita and Kansas State University.
