McPherson City Commissioners gave Public Works Director Doug Whitacre approval to contract paving company APAC to reclaim the existing road and install 4 inches of asphalt on Maxwell Street from Avenue A to Turkey Creek Drive.
Whitacre said the ditches along the half-mile section of road will remain as a way to keep costs down.
The Turkey Creek subdivision has agreed to pay $75,000 toward the project with the city paying the remaining $117,542. The project will be paid for with money from the capital improvement fund.
Funds originally allocated for the project were diverted to the Ash Street project near Lincoln Elementary School.
Mayor Tom Brown said the pavement will help reduce dust in the Turkey Creek subdivision.
Work is scheduled to begin on the project on June 30.
