For the first time since Dec. 9, 2009, the McPherson College men’s basketball team is ranked in the NAIA Division II Men’s Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.

The Bulldogs received the No. 11 spot in the annual preseason poll, announced earlier this week by the NAIA national office.

McPherson received 243 total points to edge College of the Ozarks (Mo.) for 11th. Other KCAC schools included in the poll are Sterling College (No. 20) and Bethany College (receiving votes).

The Bulldogs, who reached previously uncharted territory with a run to the quarterfinal round of the NAIA Men’s Basketball Division II National Championship last season, return four starters from a 2010-11 team that finished the season 21-14.

Northwood University (Fla.) earned the nation’s No. 1 ranking, followed by No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan University and No. 3 Davenport University (Mich.).

Mac opens the regular season this Saturday when the Bulldogs host Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The Eagles reached the second round of the national tournament a year ago following an 82-81 overtime victory against Sterling College. Game time is 8 p.m.
