Joe Carl Saverino, 93, of McPherson, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at Angel Arms in McPherson.


Joe Carl Saverino, 93, of McPherson, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at Angel Arms in McPherson.
Joe was born on Jan. 9, 1918, in Willisville, Ill.,  the son of Michael and Josephine (Fallette) Saverino.
Joseph attended Willisville elementary schools.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church McPherson.  He was baptized at Willisville, Ill.
Joe served in the U.S. Army as a Pvt. in WW II. Joe participated in the Aleutian Islands battles and campaigns, and he received the American Defense Service Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star, four Overseas Service Bars.
Joe worked in the coal mines in Illinois and in 1949 moved to McPherson and worked as a packer for Seaboard Allied Milling Company, Rodney Milling Company and worked for Kit Manufacturing in the Finishing Department, all of McPherson.
Joe was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 and American Legion Post 24 both of McPherson.
Joe was united in marriage to JoAnn Hall in 1943 and divorced in 1962. Then he married Antonio Madden in 1964. They later divorced.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Ensminger and Kay Dobbins both of McPherson; two sons, Joey Saverino of McPherson, Mike Saverino of Miami, Okla.; a sister, Rosey (Al) Morgenthler of Clearwater, Fla.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant daughters, two sisters and one brother
Cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at McPherson Cemetery, with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2715 and American Legion Post No. 24 providing military honors.
