Post offices in Roxbury and Windom will remain open into 2012, although for how long remains a mystery.
Agency officials and congressional leaders announced last week that locations marked for possible closure earlier in the year, including the two McPherson County retail outlets and the Salina and Hutchinson sorting facilities, will remain open until at least May of next year.
The USPS says it is issuing the moratorium on closures to provide ample time for Congress to consider measures regarding its future.
Several such bills, including the 21st Century Postal Service Act of 2011, have yet to be called to the Senate or House floor for full consideration.
