Joan M. Amann, 83, of McPherson, passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family. She was a former sales clerk at Ebaugh’s Gifts and also worked as a teller at Peoples Bank & Trust, retiring in 1994. She was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Newton, the daughter of Fred C. and Myrtle (Tabeling) Russell. She spent her younger years in Wichita and graduated from Wichita East High School.  Joan had been a resident of McPherson since 1964, moving from Lindsborg. In 1946, she married Leonard J. Amann. He preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 1992. Joan was a member of First Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class. Survivors include: a son, Jim Amann (Aggie Windholz) of McPherson; a daughter, Sue Nelson (Lowell) of McPherson; a brother, Gerald Russell (Madeline) of Lakeland, Fla.; six grandchildren, Nikki Crist (Jeff) of McPherson, Ben Amann (Andi) of McPherson, Jami Western (Keith) of Manhattan, Kelli Christiansen (Jason) of Haysville, Julie Jantz (John) of McPherson, and Anna Woods (Patrick) of Topeka; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Michael Edward Amann; a great-grandson, Izaan Woods; and longtime friend, Audean Horn. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 29, at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Stockham Family Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be given to First Baptist Church or Hospice Care of Kansas, in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N.  Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
