  • Odena  Hostetler, 96, of Inman, Kansas, passed away at 12:15 p.m., Wednesday, July 4, 2012, while in the company of family members at Pleasant View Home.
    Odena was born on April 14, 1916, in Tuleta, Texas, the daughter of Abner Jay and Elizabeth (Schrock) Miller.
    Odena attended the Yoder grade schools and graduated from Windom High School, Windom. She then attended Hesston College and Adela Hale Secretarial School in Hutchinson.
    Odena was a member of Inman Mennonite Church. She was a member of the Women's Mission Society and Bible Study Group; both of the church. She also was a member of the West Liberty Church, rural Windom, in her younger years.
    Odena was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this way.  She also was the head cook at Plainview Elementary School for seven years and was a supervisor in the credit life department of Alliance Life Insurance Company for more than 15 years, retiring in 1981.
    Odena was a member of the "Service" mixed quartet at West Liberty and sang in the choir.  She directed the church choir, youth choir and the chancel choir and led the congregational singing. She was instrumental in organizing the community Bible School at West Liberty where she served as director and teacher for many years.  She also served as a teacher in Sunday school and in the women's mission society.  She was a member of the Groveland E.H.U.
    Odena Miller was united in marriage to Ralph V. Hostetler on May 31, 1938, at Windom. He died on Jan. 11, 1986.
    Surviving family members include her daughter-in-laws, Patricia Hostetler, widow of Lynn, of Inman, and Judy Hostetler, widow of Garry, of Inman; her sister, Mary Hochstedler of Iowa City, Iowa; her step-sister, Velma Hartzler of Hesston; her two granddaughters, Diane Hostetler and Debbie Hostetler; her two step-granddaughters, Cherie Chasteen and Sonja Good, her one step-grandson, Kevin Ediger; her three great-grandsons, Caden Byers, Carson Byers and Casey Chasteen; her four great-granddaughters, Danika Good, Ashlyn Good, Tessa Ediger, Alaina Chasteen; other relatives and a host of friends.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph V. and two sons, Garry and Lynn; a granddaughter, Tamara K. Hostetler; and a grandson, Troy Dean Hostetler; her brothers C. Jay and J. Claude Miller, her step-brother, Ivan Brunk, her sisters, Elta Burkholder, Ruth Eash and Ethel Miller.
    Visitation for Odena will be held on Sunday, July 8, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Inman Mennonite Church, Inman, Kansas.
    The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012, at the Inman Mennonite Church, Inman, with Pastor Eric Buller officiating.
    Final resting place is West Liberty Mennonite Cemetery rural Groveland.
