  • Thomas Joseph "Tom" Riedel, 61, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 12:47 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2012 while in the company of family members at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas.
    Tom was born in Salina, Kansas, on October 1, 1950, the son of the late Dan A. and Lucille Mary (Junk) Riedel.
    Tom attended the Assaria grade schools and graduated from Southeast of Saline High School, rural Salina, Kansas in 1968.
    Tom was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church McPherson, Kansas, where he served on the Property Committee, was head usher and served his church in other capacities through the years.
    Tom served in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Vietnam War.
    Through the years, Tom was a lifelong, part-time farmer; an over-the-road truck driver working for Farmland Industries, J.D. Enterprises and later drove for himself; he owned and operated K & R Real Estate with Mike Koehn; was "jack of all trades and master of none" for Trinity Lutheran Church and for Peoples Bank & Trust.
    Thomas Joseph "Tom" Riedel was united in marriage to Sheri Kay Chinberg on June 24, 1989, at Trinity Lutheran Church in McPherson, Kansas.   
    Surviving family members include his loving and devoted wife of over 23 years Sheri Riedel of McPherson, Kansas; his children, Seth Riedel and his wife Rebecca of Lindsborg, Kansas, and Rennae Schroeder and her husband Brian of Wichita, Kansas; his siblings, Dan Riedel and his wife Lynn of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Nancy Holcom of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Steve Riedel of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, Jim Riedel and his wife Valor of Derby, Kansas, Paula LaVergne and her husband Hubert of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Cindy Renz and her husband Darrin of Laurel, Mississippi, and Brian Riedel and his wife Sarah of Andover, Kansas; his seven grandchildren, Jillian, Aiden, Aaron, Jenna, Brandon, Tatiana, and Kira; several aunts and uncles, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
    Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
    Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson, Kansas.
    Graveside services will be held at the New Gottland Lutheran Church Cemetery rural McPherson, Kansas at 9 a.m., on Thursday, July 12, 2012, with military honors provided by members of the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 both of McPherson, Kansas.
    The memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 12th, 2012 with The Reverend Tim Leaf officiating.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or V.F.W. Flag Fund and they can be sent in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas.
