Johnnie Louise Schmidt, 88, of Claremore, Okla., passed away at 2:50 a.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at St. Johns Hospital, Tulsa, Okla.
Johnnie was born in Stigler, Okla., on April 17, 1924, the daughter of Clarence Addison and Minnie Mozzell (Carolan) Peck.
Johnnie attended the Mound Olive country school in Tamaha, Okla., and graduated from Stigler High School in 1942, Stigler, Okla. She then attended the Connors State College in Warner, Okla., and transferred to Panhandle State in Goodwell, Okla., where she graduated with her Teachers Degree.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Claremore, Okla., having transferred from McPherson. Johnnie was baptized in a farm pond just southeast of Mount Olive, Okla., in 1938.
Johnnie was a homemaker and taught home economics for Boise City, Okla., schools then after moving to McPherson, she began working for C.R. Anthony's Clothiers as the bookkeeper. Johnnie then worked for the A.S.C.S. Office for 13 years as a clerk. She then started working for Black Stone Drilling Company where she was a bookkeeper for 21 years until her retirement in 1988. Following her retirement, she worked for the Villager Dress Shop.
She was a member of the American Legion Post 24 Ladies Auxiliary for 62 years.
Johnnie Louise Peck was united in marriage to Rondal M. "Ron" Schmidt on Aug. 2, 1945, at McPherson, at Ron's parents home in McPherson. Ron died on Oct. 11, 2005.
Surviving family members include her children, Michael C. Schmidt of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Connie S. Ghere and her husband Leonard of Claremore, Okla.; her sister, Wanda Duel of McCalls, Idaho; her sisters-in-law Orlene Peck of Longview, Wash., and Jean Peck of Stigler, Okla.; her grandchildren, Seth Nelson of Bedford, Texas, Sami Plummer and her husband Michael of Bedford, Texas; her step-grandchildren, Edie Hill, Harry Ghere, and Leonard Ghere, Jr., all of Tulsa, Okla., Pattie Henderson, of Mounds, Okla., Bobby Ghere, and Debbie Dash, both of Claremore, Okla.; her great-granddaughters, Charli and Andi Plummer of Bedford, Texas; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ron, two brothers, Raymond A., Larry A. Peck; two sisters, Wilmath Tomlinson and Dorothy Leslie.
Graveside services and burial of cremains will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012, at McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating.
