  • Mrs. Jean Irene Silverstrand, 77, of McPherson, died at 10:25 p.m., Tuesday, July 17, 2012, peacefully at Pine Village, Moundridge.

  • Mrs. Jean Irene Silverstrand, 77, of McPherson, died at 10:25 p.m., Tuesday, July 17, 2012, peacefully at Pine Village, Moundridge.
    Jean was born on Sept. 13, 1934, Moundridge, the daughter of  Henry and Daisy E. (Wiley) Oltmanns.
    Jean attended the Moundridge Grade School and graduated from Moundridge High School, Moundridge.  She then attended and graduated from Kansas State Teachers School, Emporia.
    Jean was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson, where she was a past president of the St. Joseph's Altar Society.  She also was a past president of Church Women United.
    Jean taught the first grade at Faris Elementary School in Hutchinson, and in first grade at Newton, Iowa. She also taught quilting classes for the Button Hole and was an avid quilter.
    Jean was a member of and past president of the McPherson Quilt Guild, and she was on the board of the KQO.  
    Jean was united in marriage to William "Bill" Silverstrand on June 10, 1970, at Hutchinson.
    Surviving family members include her loving and devoted husband of more than 42 years; her sister Ann Storer of Moundridge, her brothers John Oltmanns and his wife Pat of Wichita, and Bob Oltmanns and his wife Ruth of Moundridge; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
    Jean was preceded in death by her parents. Henry and Daisy Oltmanns.
    Friends are invited to call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2012, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church McPherson.  The rosary will start at 7:15 p.m. following the visitation.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated  at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson, with Fr. Hien Nguyen officiating.
    Final resting place will be in the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson.
    Memorial contributions may be given to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and or School and they can be sent in care of the Glidden Ediger Funeral Home; 222 W. Euclid St.; McPherson, KS 67460.
