  • Mrs. Eleanor Ceceilia Martinson, 89, of McPherson, passed away at 4:50 p.m., Thursday, July 19, 2012, at McPherson Hospital, McPherson.

  • Mrs. Eleanor Ceceilia Martinson, 89, of McPherson, passed away at 4:50 p.m., Thursday, July 19, 2012, at McPherson Hospital, McPherson.
    Mrs. Martinson was bornon Oct. 10, 1922, in rural Oberlin, the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Rhoda Agnes (Duffy) Kean.
    She attended Salina grade schools and graduated from the Salina High School, Salina.  She then attended  Brown Mackie Business College, Salina.
    She was a former member of New Gottland Lutheran Church, McPherson. She was currently a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Through the years, she served both churches in many capacities
    Eleanor was a homemaker and was a cook for McPherson High School, McPherson, for several years and a cook for the Bethany Home, Lindsborg.
    She was a member of the Buzzing Bee's Club, and active in other community affairs
    She was the widow of Ernest Lloyd Willard Martinson. Eleanor C. Kean was united in marriage to Ernest Lloyd Willard Martinson on Dec. 20, 1941, at the Presbyterian Church Parsonage in Salina. He died on Dec. 16, 1999.
    Survivors include: daughter, “CeCe” (Gene) Shannon of Salina; son Glenn (Pamelia) Martinson of McPherson; sister,  Helen Lopshire of Salina; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest; her sisters, Janice Carter, Leona Kean, E. Fern Martinson, Edith Smith and Virginia Hulse; her brothers, Frank A. and Loren A. Kean.
    Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012,  with family present from 5 to 7 p.m at Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, McPherson.
    Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at New Gottland Lutheran Church, McPherson, with Reverend Harry Grinstad officiating.
    Final resting place will be New Gottland Lutheran Church Cemetery McPherson.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or New Gottland Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society, in care of Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid St, McPherson, Kansas 67460
