  • Mrs. Lucille O. Thompson, 97, of McPherson, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, while in the company of family members at her residence.

  • Mrs. Lucille O. Thompson, 97, of McPherson, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, while in the company of family members at her residence.
    Mrs. Thompson was born in Feb. 12, 1915, Okmogee, Okla., the daughter of the late Hiram William and Mabel Ella (Hoskins) Marsh.
    Lucille attended the Oak Grove country school and graduated from Arkansas City High School, Arkansas City, Kansas. She then attended Wichita Business College, Wichita.
    Lucille was a homemaker and worked for Boeing Aircraft Company as a dispatcher for two weeks and then became a secretary in both Plant 1 and then in Plant 2 until the end of World War II.  She then went to work for  D.R.M. (Derby, Richey, Moriarty) Oil company, now Derby Refining Company, in Wichita. Lucille became the bookkeeper and secretary, owner and operator of Thompson Transport Company, Inc. a liquid fuel carrier, Kenland Oil Company, and Clear Creek Oil Pipeline Company along with her husband Darrell.
    Lucille was a member of 20th Century Club, and the Ladies Reading Circle, both of McPherson.
    Lucille O. Marsh was united in marriage to Darrell V. Thompson on Nov. 14, 1947 at Arkansas City, Kansas, at Lucille's parents’ home. Darrell died suddenly on Sept. 10, 2010.
    Survivors family members include: two sons; Gayland "Blue" (Elizabeth) Thompson of Terrell, Texas and Kent (Leslie) Thompson of Hutchinson; a sister  Ella Lorene (Gene) Kelso of Ellington, Mo.; a grandson, Justin (Heather) Thompson of Louisburg; three granddaughters, Jody  (Mark) Franklin of Viola, Kansas, Mandy (Brad) Hiner of Viola, and Alexandra Thompson of Hutchinson; two grandsons, Chris Thompson of McPherson, and Aaron Thompson of Hutchinson; a great grandson, John Darrell Thompson of Louisburg; five great-granddaughters, Liberty  Franklin, Camryn Hiner,  Maraya Lucille Thompson, Coti Hiner, and Ally Blair; other relatives and friends.
    Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Darrell V. Thompson; and two sisters, Mabel Keaton and Ruby Musson.
    Cremation has taken place. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, 2012 at Lucille's home.
    Private family inurnment of cremated remains will be in McPherson Cemetery, McPherson.
    Memorial contributions may be given to YMCA or American Legion Post 24 in care of Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid
