  • Winona Marie McCall, 88, of Honey Creek, Iowa, passed away at 5:15 a.m., on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012 at Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Neb.
    Winnie was born on Aug. 30, 1924, in Brookville, the daughter of the late William "Bill" Briggs and Mary "Marie" Elizabeth (Bradford) Boyer.
    Winnie attended the Yordy grade school, Brookville, and graduated from Ellsworth High School, Ellsworth.  She then attended Fort Hays State College, Hays, and received her teachers certificate.
    She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in McPherson.
    Winnie was a homemaker and also had worked as an elementary school teacher for Yordy Country School, rural Brookville, in a one-room school house where she taught all eight grades; and later as the Deputy Clerk for Ellsworth County. When she moved to McPherson, she worked for McPherson City Hall as a secretary for Vital Statistics, for Baders Cleaners, for Santa Fe Trucking as a secretary, and the S.R.S. office all of McPherson.
    Winnie was a member of  the Oriental Chapter No. 58 Order of Eastern Star in which she served as secretary for 22 years.  Chapter 58, consolidated with Felicity Chapter 371 Lindsborg.
    Winona Marie Boyer was united in marriage to Eldon Dean McCall on April 13, 1945 at Ellsworth.  Eldon died on Nov. 6, 2004. They established their first home together in Ellsworth.  Later they moved to Lyons for three years prior to moving to Great Bend where they lived for three years, moving to McPherson in 1958.  Winnie moved to Honey Creek, Iowa, in November 2010.
    Survivors include two sons, Ronald D. McCall and wife, Linda, of Del City, Okla., and Clifford E. McCall and wife, Tamara, of Independence, Mo.; two daughters, Mary E. McFarland and husband, Jim, of Omaha, Neb., and Barbara A. McIntosh and husband, Tim, of Honey Creek, Iowa; eight grandchildren — Dena, Christina, Aaron, Tara, Teri, Michael, Josh and Amber; 15 great-grandchildren — Tanner, Shurelle, Cameron, Cody, Brianna, Alex, Michael, Trey, Jeremy, Darrius, Damein, Domnick, Jace, Jayden, and Sophia; other relatives and a host of friends.
    Winnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldon; a grandson, Eric McCall; a still birth son, baby boy McCall;  two brothers, Kenneth and Fred Boyer; two sisters, Edna Hochman and Irene Matzek.
    Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, 2012 at the Glidden-Ediger Chapel in McPherson. Felicity Chapter No. 371, Order of Eastern Star, will present Eastern Star services at 7 p.m.
    The funeral service will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at Glidden-Ediger Chapel in McPherson, with Reverend Constance Lunn officiating.
    The final resting place will be in the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson.
    Memorial contributions may be given to First Congregation United Church of Christ or Felicity Chapter No. 371, Order of  Eastern Star, Lindsborg, and they can be sent in care of the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home; 222 W. Euclid St.; McPherson, KS 67460.
