  • Moundridge emerged with two victories from what was a McPherson County volleyball triangular it hosted Tuesday.
The Wildcats overcame a first-set loss to Canton-Galva to defeat the Eagles (23-25, 25-7, 25-18) before turning back Inman in straight sets (25-13, 25-16).
“We played lazy and unaware to start the night against Canton-Galva, but I was proud of how we turned it around and got the momentum back,” MHS coach Kelsi Chisholm said.
Brooke Holloway had a big night with 19 kills against Canton-Galva and seven serving aces against Inman. Michelle Schrag had nine kills to highlight the Inman match.
    Inman finished 1-1, as it defeated Canton-Galva 25-10, 25-16.
Krystal Miller served five points in a row for Inman against Canton-Galva to close out the set.
Against Moundridge, Inman coach Jason Lindstrom said serve receive was the problem.
Savanah Case had 12 kills in two matches for the Teutons, while Ashlyn Wiens accounted for 18 digs.
Canton-Galva coach Jenny Loyd said a highlight of the night was winning a set against Moundridge.
“Physically we are a decent team, mentally we have work to do,” she said. “Eliminating mental lapses is at the top of our list. It is crucial for us to stayed focused and compete one point at a time, for the entire match.”
LITTLE RIVER 2-0 AT ELYRIA — Little River took care of Wakefield 25-12, 25-11, then needed three sets to defeat Elyria Christian (22-25, 25-17, 25-15).
“I thought we made some improvements up front tonight offensively,” Little River coach Karen Hull said. “This was our sixth three-game match and we were finally able to get a victory. Everyone played well when they had to tonight.  Chloe Baldwin and Reagan Dougherty were strong players all the way around tonight and Skylar Johnston played the net very well tonight making a lot of smart plays.”
Elyria pounded Wakefield 25-8, 25-8 to earn a split of its day.
SMOKY DROPS TWO — Playing for the second time in as many days, Smoky Valley lost a pair of tough matches to Pratt (18-25, 18-25) and Halstead (18-25, 25-20, 22-25).
“We played well at times tonight, but struggled late in each of our sets,” Smoky Valley coach Doug Schneider said. “We need to cut out our serving errors and our passing errors late in sets. We also need to really work harder at getting more blocks on the outside hitters and picking up more digs. If we can just focus on the little things, the big picture will come together.”
